Redesigning UVU website - Part 1
The Project that our group was assigned to redesign the UVU Surveying and Mapping page. After we met with Dan (the head of the department) we got to work on doing research on what Surveying and Mapping were, who the audience was of the website, and how we could develop personas for the potential audience of the site.
We then created design principles to guide us through the project.
We then created a site map to create the basic structure of the project. We then altered it heavily to make it more simple and modern looking.
Basic wireframes then came to fruition
Then finally it was time to design the site.
The testing of the prototype was one of the most useful parts of the whole process. We visited the Smart Eyetracking Lab at UVU and had volunteers give us feedback. A lot of it was verbal feedback but we also got to see where their eyes were and what they were doing. We got to make changes based on the information and then got it ready for presenting.

Overall I feel like it was a very good experience overall. Some of the members in the group were more useful than others though. I guess in the real world, you wouldn’t get to choose who you work with so you kind of just have to take what you can get.
The project was kind of confusing at times. It was frustrating when a certain direction wasn’t given, or when there wasn’t enough in-class time to meet with members of the group and relying heavily on texts and messages to get things done.
I feel like if the class was more organized and each class session was longer, it would provide for much more productive experience. The members in the group that did help, though, did an amazing job. I couldn’t have done it all by myself and it was really good and fun to work with these guys. Next time, I just wish that we would have scheduled “mandatory” group time so we didn’t have to do so much via messaging.
